Have you ever been so intrenched in the work you love so much that you forget that not everybody has the same exposure to it? Well, I’ve been told that’s where I’ve been found.
I’ve had people ask me who Dave Ramsey is and why I reference him or his last name in my blogs, on my website and even in my emails. I consider Dave Ramsey the Godfather of personal finance. He was an ambitious young man and learned the hard way about how to “make money.” He was buying real estate on credit. By age 26 he had established a $4 million real estate portfolio, only to lose it by age 30. As a result of this loss, he and his wife dug themselves out of the huge financial crisis. This work became the process of the 7 Baby Steps to financial freedom. What are the baby steps? Great question!
1. Save 1,000 for a beginner emergency fund.
2. Pay off all debt using the debt snowball.
Everything except your mortgage.
3. Fully fund your emergency fund.
Save between 3-6 months of “expenses.”
4. Invest 15% of your household income
Into Roth IRAs and tax-favored retirement plans.
5. Save for your children’s college.
6. Pay off your mortgage early.
7. Built wealth and give.
Reading Dave Ramsey’s book Total Money Makeover introduced these baby steps to me. My husband and I wouldn’t be where we are today had we not paid attention to this process. We even use these principles in our businesses. We’ll talk more about the 7 Baby Steps in a later blog.
Kent and I continue to learn from Dave Ramsey and personalities that are a part of Ramsey Solutions. These experts include his daughter, Rachel Cruz, Christy Wright, Chris Hogan and Ken Coleman. They all offer different specialties and creative ways to achieve your financial goals. The organization is known as Ramsey Solutions.
I completed Financial Coach Master Training through Ramsey Solutions. I was taught how to guide people through their financial journey and help them reach financial freedom. I find this work incredibly rewarding. I am a Ramsey Preferred Coach which means that I contract with Ramsey Solutions to work with people who go to the Dave Ramsey website. Website visitors indicate they are ready to get started in working with a financial coach for education, guidance, accountability and support as they become the hero in their own story.
